Building a Two-Frame Wardrobe
Why two well-chosen pairs will take you further than a drawer full of frames you never reach for.

Most people own too many and wear one
Ask anyone with a drawer of sunglasses which pair they actually wear and the answer is nearly always the same one. The rest were bought for an occasion, or on holiday, or because they were cheap — and none of those is a reason that survives contact with a Tuesday.
The two that cover everything
The first is an everyday frame in a neutral you can wear with anything: a mid-weight acetate, a lens dark enough for real sun. The second is the opposite of the first — if one is warm and round, make the other cool and angular — so you always have something that suits the day.
- One neutral everyday frame you can wear with anything
- One that contrasts it in shape and in tone
- Both fitted properly, which is what makes them wearable

"Two pairs you reach for beat six you keep meaning to."
Clara Wynn
Spend the difference on the fit
Two frames rather than six means you can afford to have both adjusted properly — nose pads set, temples shaped to your head. A well-fitted frame is the one that stops being noticeable after an hour, and that is most of what makes a pair get worn.
